Burke Frigate

Following the success of the Hawker Frigate, GsbAG decided to follow up with a heavier design in the years before the Solomani Rim War. The Burke class was deployed in 992, and several saw service with frontier squadrons against the Solomani. Unlike the Hawker, the Burke has a larger contingent of smaller fighters, and is intended to serve in a group of ships, acting as a proactive recon platform, and intel liason. The launch port arrangement is built along the lines of an old SLBM submarine's tube arrangement, with the fighters launched at a right angle from the ship itself. The Frigate is too lightly armed to defend itself in line battles, and the ship is usually escorted, or serves as a forward surveillar and raider.

The Burke was made an IDP design after the war, and thousands were built for Imperial reserve units and colonial navies. The class was resurrected by the Regency in the 1140s to act as a supplementary long range patrol ship in addition to its growing array of TL-15 Sydkai class Frigates. Most Burkes have been downgraded to commercial patrol, and work the Regency's spinward borders, including several in guerilla supression work in the Regency Sword Worlds. A number of other Spinward States have adopted the design, either in the form of transfers from the Regency, or in license production.
