Luminous Sloop

design by

The Fiery class Sloop (formerly Close Escort) was one of my favorite MT designs. Unfortunately the advancement of the Regency's tech level would have left the ship outmoded compared to newer ships coming off of the assembly line. But given the ships popularity, an upgrade of the design seems logical, if not inescapable. The Luminous design was one of the Regency's first TL-16 efforts. First produced at Vincennes in 1162 as part of a pilot program for developing experience in TL-16 systems, it did not reach full production until 1176. The ship is vastly improved over its sire, longer ranged, faster, and more heavily armed and armored. Members of the class are named after light or radiance (examples: Radiant, Scintilla etc.).
